The Hooker and the Nun
Published in Paperback by New Age World Publishing (01 January, 2003)
Author: Eve Locke
Average review score:

...marvelous
This is one of a kind and this is so well described that I feel as though I'm one of her sensual characters, its exciting and raunchy and I can't put the book down,I get mesmerized everytime I open the book. I always wanted to have something written so good in terms of down to earth langauge, its my kind of story and Eve Locke is my kind of author, I'd like to meet her and lay some compliments on her but im lieu of the meeting this review is probably as close as i'll ever get and this is my way of letting the public in on some fantastic reading entertainment.

realistic, lewd and so very very good
It's almost real the way this novel reads, this took real talent to bring to us who crave such raunhy romance, I've read it twice and can't wait for her next. Never in my wildest dreams have I ever expected to have a real honest to goodness sexual story told like it really happens. My husband even loves it and so does all my friends who seem to cherish the Eve Locke Bible, the descriptive love making is next to the real thing and sometimes I think it's even better.

the best smut I've ever read
Eve Locke has to the the queen of ..., her story telling talents are second to none, we here at the hospital in Atlanta are being swept away by the raunchy way this novel is written, we love the four letter words, there not just four letter words, not in this story in this book they are classy desriptions of lewdness, just the way many of us would love to be involved in, this is a turn on the minute you open the novel, its mesmerizing and i'm turned on with every turning of the page. Its almost like being there and a few times I've become one of her charaters and thoroughly enjoyed my own climax's, and many of my friends have too. This book has made the rounds many times and its as though i'm taking a new lover with each reading, HOORAY for Eve Locke, give us more, I understand she has more as good or better, we're searching for them and when we find our rainbow's end we'll write another review, her story telling is spectaular.

The Last Hookers
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (October, 2001)
Authors: Carle E. Dunn and William Atkinson
Average review score:

A compelling look inside the Vietnam War
The Last Hookers provides us with a compelling inside look into the historical facts that shaped the Vietnam War (going all the way back to the earliest events in Europe and WW II). Colonel Dunn has truly authored a comprehensive, well written and definitive war story. The story details not only the politics involved behind the scenes, but how families from all sides were affected and coped with the strain and tragedy of the war.

While this is a work of fiction the historical facts woven throughout the story really bring the characters to life. This realistic book was a thoroughly enjoyable read that gave me insights into the events leading up to and including the war itself that I had not even considered before.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is even remotely interested in the Vietnam War! You will come away with a much deeper understanding of the conflict and respect for those individuals and their families who were directly involved. Great stuff!

The Last Hookers
Carle E. Dunn has done the hookers and anyone who is interested in what really happened in Vietnam a great service in pointing out the good and the bad, the brave and not so brave, the strife and the glory. Having "been there, done that", the book brings out the history, the fights, the family of yesteryear long buried. It should not, for our brave who have given their all should not be forgotten. This book brings it well into the fore-front.

Carle clearly separates a bad war from the good warriors who faught it. The Last Hookers suggest a much more positive view of not just the outcome of the war, but also of American morale, competence, and performance. A must read.

Ex Hooker, (Recovery)

The Last Hookers
As a Flight Engineer with the 362Avn.Co. and having served under Col. Dunn I could not be more proud. After reading The Last Hookers I can honestly say I felt pride for the job we did in Vietnam. If anyone wants to know what Vietnam was like this is the book to read.

Calvary's Child: The Life of Amanda Carol Hooker

A Truly Remarkable Person
Like Carol, I am a member of the High Point University Class of 1998. Carol was one of the most kind, honest, and intelligent people I've ever met. I now attend East Carolina University School of Medicine, and seldom a day passes without a thought about Carol; she wanted the opportunity to train here, but cancer took her away before she could come. This book gave me new insight into Carol's early years, revealing much I did not know. This book, like Carol, is truly remarkable.

One of the BEST books I have ever read!
I read this book in one day, through a few tears, as well as laughter. This is a very, very touching book which should be read by everyone who has a child! It is very heart-wrenching to know how bad cancer hurts the whole family. I definitely give this book 5 stars!

Very Warm,personal
I am a personal friend of the Hookers. I was with Carol at different times in her life. She was one of the strongest christian I have every know. This is an encouragering book for you to hold on and trust in Jesus Christ.

Earl Hooker, Blues Master (American Made Music Series)
Published in Paperback by Univ Pr of Mississippi (Trd) (February, 2001)
Author: Sebastian Danchin
Average review score:

A Great Book About A Great Bluesman!
Earl Hooker was one of the most influential guitarists that ever lived; not just in the blues, but in many different musical styles. His mastery of slide guitar and the wah-wah pedal (many times combining BOTH, thus creating a truly hair-raising sound) are legendary. But sadly, Earl Hooker is all but obscure now, owing to his early death (he died in 1970 at age 39 from tuberculosis), his uneven recording career (he only made 3 "true" albums; he recorded many obscure 45 rpm sides and guest appearances), and even his famous name association (he is half-cousin to the late boogie king John Lee Hooker) didn't seem to help him achieve real stardom; one he so greatly deserved!

As all of the previous reviewers have pointed out, this is an extensively researched book, chock-full of interviews with many of the legends Hooker played with in his seemingly short career (Pinetop Perkins, Big Moose Walker, A.C. Reed, B.B. King), each one giving detailed accounts of Hooker's somewhat eccentric behavior, his lifelong battle with TB, but most of all and importantly, his undeniable guitar prowess. Unfortunately, by the time Hooker began to get noticed for his amazing natural talent and hard work, TB overtook him, causing his untimely death.

This is an excellent book, both for true Earl Hooker fans, and new ones alike. He had so much more to give the world of music, and had he lived, he most certainly would've attained the same success and legendary status as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy and Albert King, just to name a few. Essential reading!

Honoring a great bluesman....
Since the 60s, Earl Hooker has been a mythical figure for me. Over the years I've heard his brilliant slide guitar solos here and there, mostly as an accompanist and eventually on his Blue Thumb vinyl release in 1970. And of course I had read all the superlatives that his musical cohorts liberally expressed in the blues press. But reading Danchin's exhaustively researched tribute has given a whole new life to those recordings. The detailed stories and thorough personnel listings associated with each of Hooker's scant few recording sessions add immeasurably to the enjoyment of my Hooker collection. Danchin does a remarkable job recreating a life using only second-hand info gleaned in the main from dozens of interviews with all those bluesmen and friends who inhabited Hooker's hectic world. My hope is that Danchin will apply his skills to telling the story of another deserving (and still LIVING) blues legend: Little Milton Campbell!

If you like Earl Hooker, or Chicago Blues, you'll like this!
The amazing part about this book is that the author was able to find out so much about Earl Hooker. The guy is a legendary guitar player. If you read interviews with his contemporaries like Buddy Guy or Otis Rush, they will attest to Hooker's greatness. Unfortunately Hooker died thirty years ago and is pretty obscure today. He didn't sing, so he survives on records largely as an accompanist to other people and on albums he recorded under his own name for a wide variety of mostly small and forgotten record labels. Many of his recordings are hard to find today. Surprisingly this author was able to find out about Earl Hooker's life and his world in great detail and in so doing rescue Earl Hooker from disappearing into history. In addition to being amazingly well researched this book is written by a fan of blues music. If you read this book you'll probably want to hear more of Earl Hooker, and that's probably the best compliment I could bestow on the author!

Hookers, Tricks and Cops
Published in Diskette by Adventure Books, Inc. (February, 2001)
Author: Loren W. Christensen

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW
"Hookers, Tricks and Cops, is not your everyday book. No, this one will make you sit up and take notice. Think the world of prostitution is bad? You just don't know the half of it. Mr. Christensen writes from first hand knowledge, being a retired police officer, he tells the true story of the interaction between the three, Hookers, Tricks and Cops. He will answer the questions that have been whispered behind close doors.

The stories are true encounters that Mr.Christensen and his fellow workers have had.
Often sad, sometimes humorous, he gets down to the nitty-gritty of lives age old profession.
Who are these women and men who sell something so precious for so little? Why do they do this and where do their lives go after their youth and innocence has long departed them? This book takes a hard, accurate look and answers these questions and many more.

I was surprised at some of the comments and attitudes of the prostitutes and tricks myself. Mr. Christensen takes away the myth of the innocent victim and allows you to see things as they really are. Not a pretty sight, I might add!

This is not a book for the tender of heart, as some dialog is crude but necessary in keeping with the content of the story.

"Hookers, Tricks and Cops!" Interesting, sad, humorous, violent and sobering at the same time!
Quite a read! Thank you Mr. Christensen for shedding a new light and answering many unasked questions. And....for those who maybe
thinking of taking a little ride down to the Red-Light district of your hometown.......maybe you
might want to read this book first. You may just decide to stay home and be thankful for the wonderful family you have!

Shirley Johnson/Reviewer

Humorous and Well Written
Hookers, Tricks and Cops was a real eye opener. I've seen the ladies on street corners here in LA, but I hadn't a clue about how the police conduct their undercover missions.
It's clearly a bleak world the women live in and a sordid one that we ask our officer to enter.

The book consists of dozens of one or two page anecdotes told by several police officers and prostitutes. Lots of them are funny. Christensen did a great job in that not only does his writing bring all the players to life, but he treats them all with respect.

(..)It's on a floppy disc. You simply plug it into your computer and read it like a book. The short anecdotes in Hookers are perfect for this format.

Revealing
Hookers, Tricks and Cops reveals all the dark humor, poignancy, sordidness, degradation, sadness and violence that is the world where hookers, tricks and cops interweave.

During Loren Christensen's 25-year police career, he worked many assignments that brought him into contact with street prostitutes. The anecdotes in this book tell of decoy missions, confrontations, arrests and times he used them as informants.

Loren also interviewed many veteran police officers, male and female, as well as prostitutes. Their stories are in this book, too, some subtle; some in-your-face, some laugh-out-loud funny -- but all actually happened.

A police officer was killed working a decoy mission while Loren was writing this book That tragic story is told here, too.

While the book is in no way sexually titillating, some of the dialog is crude in keeping with the reality of the situations.

Maneuver Warfare: An Anthology
Published in Hardcover by Presidio Pr (January, 1994)
Author: Richard D. Jr. Hooker
Average review score:

overview of maneuver war
This book is a gold mine of the nuances of the on-going development of maneuver war doctrine. Read it if you want to see the future of combat on the battlefield.

This book is prophetic
Though written in 1993, the Anthology still stands especially when you read Col Bolger's warning that maneuverism will not work against a defense-in-depth and LTC Grossman's study on the psychology of war. The other chapters express the desire to collapse enemies with maneuver rather than try to attrit/wipe them out. What we need today is a sequel where we explain 4th generation war, how we need both forces that can collapse enemies with Air-Mech 3-D maneuver AND 2-D firepower/mechanical advantage to overcome enemies in cities; combining Bolger with the other authors into a stronger whole.

These authors are the best thinkers in the U.S. military today and it would be great to see them unite again with some of the new military theorists for a sequel.

Airborne!

Must read for combat arms officers
This is a must read book for combat arms officers. It explores many of the fundamental concepts involved in maneuver warfare, and why small, agile armies usually beat bigger, slower enemies. The arrangement of various topics covered by several authors results in an interesting and intriguing read. Far superion to Leonhards similar maneuver book. The only books that explore this important topic as well are "Maneuver Warfare Handbook" by Bill Lind, and the superb "Warfighting" by Hayden. If you are an Army officer or Marine officer this needs to be on your shelf.

One Green Frog
Published in Hardcover by Grosset & Dunlap (April, 1989)
Author: Yvonne Hooker
Average review score:

A great way to intorduce counting to your child
This is my favorite counting book! Not only are the pages sturdy enough for little hands, but they have round holes just perfect for little fingers to poke through. Starting with one green frog, each page features a number in big, black type, and a corresponding illustration. One eye of each illustration is cut out, making a continuous hole all the way through the book. This book makes learning to count as easy as 1, 2, 3. The bright, crisp illustrations are set on a white background. Those illustrating larger numbers are neatly lined up, so your child can concentrate on counting without having to search for that tenth bumble bee.

My baby's favorite book
This is the one and only book that keeps my 10 month old son's attention. He loves it. The sturdy pages are great for little fingers that are learning to turn pages, and he likes the 3-D effect of the animals eyes.

Our Favorite Counting Book!
This is the best counting book I've come across. The pages are sturdy, the different animals are neatly lined up so they're easy to count, and the little holes just cry out for little fingers to poke through them.

Mash Goes to Maine
Published in Hardcover by Amereon Ltd (June, 1989)
Authors: R. Hooker and W. E. Butterworth
Average review score:

For once, the sequel is better
"M*A*S*H Goes to Maine" is Richard Hooker's hilarious sequel to his classic book "MASH" and, for once, the sequel is better! Living a quiet life in Maine after the Korean War, doctors "Hawkeye" Pierce, "Duke" Forrest and "Trapper John" McIntyre are at it again, trying to establish a medical hospital while fighting the snobbiest doctors in America. Funny and very relaxing, you'll love "M*A*S*H Goes to Maine".

A Fantastic Book
There are a lot of "MASH goes to..." books. This is the original and one of the best. The first sequel to MASH, this novel brings the characters from the original stateside. If you've read any of the other MASH goes to books (written by Richard Hooker and William E. Butterworth, though I strongly suspect except for lending his name, Hooker had nothing to do with) and were disgusted by how tedius and down-right horrible they were, don't let them put you off this book. This, along with MASH Mania, was written by Hooker himself and is every bit as good as the Butterworth books are bad.

Bang On the Money!
I'm from Maine, and with only modest poetic exaggeration, Hooker gets it right. At least as it used to be. I knew characters such as he portrays--Hawkeye, the Simmons brothers, Wooden-leg Wilcox and all the rest. Only Marshall Dodge came as close to capturing the true old-time spirit of Down East.

Hooker : An Authentic Wrestler's Adventures Inside the Bizarre World of Professional Wrestling.
Published in Paperback by The Wrestling Channel Press (06 February, 2001)
Authors: Lou Thesz and Kit Bauman
Average review score:

Lou Thesz:There will never be another one like him
I got the book "Hooker" over a year ago. It came in the mail at 4:30 p.m on Tuesday and I had read it completely by 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. I could not quit reading it. It is one of the best books I have ever read. Lou Thesz is one of the greatest wrestlers that this business has ever produced. I promoted several towns out of Nashville booking office and I had the privilege of having Lou wrestle for me several times. On one occasion we started selling tickets at 5:00 p.m. and was completely sold out at 6:30 p.m. The matches did not start until 8:30 p.m. and the fans sat there for two or more hours waiting for that match. We turned several thousand people away. Anytime Lou would wrestle in a town for me;the attendance would stay up for several months eventho he was not on the card. He had that kind of impact on wrestling. After the matches we went out to a nightclub in Memphis and Lou had all the respect of everyone there. He has been an inspiration to me for all my entire wrestling life (45 years in the wrestling profession as wrestler and promoter). If you have not read this book;be sure and purchase it as it is one of the best and informative books I have ever read.

"Hooker" will keep you hooked
If you think the WWF is all there is to pro wrestling, prepare to learn a thing or two. Lou Thesz's life story not only takes you through his career, which lasted from the 30s to the 80s, it provides a history of pro wrestling. He tells you how the game was played inside and outside the ring. A fascinating, behind the scenes look at wrestling before the term "sports entertainment" was coined. Set aside a few hours and get a bedside book light, because you'll need them. "Hooker" is one of those books you won't be able to put down...and you'll find yourself reading it over and over again. Lou Thesz and Kit Bauman are the tag team champions of wrestling writing!

The Master Wrestler
Professional wrestling is caught in a paradox. On the one hand, the matches are not genuine contests but pure performance, with the winner decided by the promoter in advance. On the other hand, though in these days of absurd gimmicks and sensationalism this is difficult to realize, wrestling is a high and difficult art. No one who had the good fortune to see Lou Thesz, usually ranked the foremost wrestler of the past half-century, can be in any doubt on the latter point. Thesz's mastery of technique, together with his phenomenal speed, made him a wrestler of surpassing excellence. As he reveals in Hooker, his skill was carefully honed in years of training. He draws sharply etched portraits of his mentors George Tragos and Ad Santell. He learned from them holds of devastating effect, enabling him quickly to dispatch any wrestler so foolish as to challenge him to a real contest. As Thesz recounts his wrestling career, which lasted from the 1930s to the 1970s, the reader gains a clear impression of his strong character. Thesz is fiercely loyal to his friends. He reacted sharply when Buddy Rogers made a slighting reference to his hero, Ed "Strangler" Lewis, and rushed to Lewis's defense. He is a man of strong likes and dislikes. He conceals neither his contempt for those, e.g., Primo Carnera, whom he views as incompetent, nor his admiration for those few who meet his exacting standards. Readers who want an account of professional wrestling by the ultimate insider should immediately secure a copy of this excellent book. Those who do so will encounter a genuine Amercan original.

Physician Assistants in American Medicine
Published in Paperback by Churchill Livingstone (15 January, 1997)
Authors: Roderick S. Hooker and James F. Cawley
Average review score:

Must Read
This book was very helpful to me. It helped make up my mind about what career path to pursue. The authors give insight into the history and future of the PA profession. They give numerous charts and graphs showing statistics on the PA profession as compared to other professions. I especially found it helpful that they compared the Nurse Practitioner to the Physician Assistant, which are two very closely related professions. Before having read this book, I was pretty sure I wanted to become a PA. After reading the book, I further considered the possibility of the NP career. The book definitely is a must read for prospective PA's. I don't think that it would be as enjoyable for current PA's or current PA students though. The information is a bit outdated as far as how many PA programs are accredited as of today and so on but that's to be expected. However, overall, I do recommend this book very much.

The quintessential resource for the PA Profession
Clear, concise and interesting reading. The authors have compiled the most recent data on the profession and present it in a thoughtful and logical fashion. A "must-read" for prospective and current PA students, graduate PAs, physicians and administrators. This book will answer ALL the questions.

recommend this book to anyone looking into the pa program
very easy to read book with alot of information for the pa or future pa
